PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL SELECTION FOR POLICE SERVICE WITH THE USE OF AN ADAPTED INDIVIDUAL AND TYPOLOGICAL QUESTIONNAIRE

Abstract

The author has studied the issue of Ukrainian adaptation of the known foreign psychodiagnostic method of “Individual and Typological Questionnaire” within the framework of improving the system of professional recruitment for the National Police of Ukraine. The Individual and Typological Questionnaire (ITQ) was developed at the Institute of Applied Psychology of the Russian Federation under the leadership of L. M. Sobchyk in 2003, it was structured on the basis of the orthogonal model of personality and the theory of leading tendencies. The leading tendency is the steady, pivotal quality of an individual, which by the roots reaches the type of higher nervous activity, constitutionally defined properties of a man and determines individual characteristics of adaptive mechanisms, the style of thinking and interpersonal behavior, the power of needs and motivation, the type of reaction to stress. The steady leading individual tendency affects the formation of higher levels of personality – social orientation, hierarchy of values, conscious motivation, moral orientations. The ITQ methodology allows to diagnose individual and psychological features according to eight basic scales: 1 – extraversion; 2 – spontaneity; 3 – aggressiveness; 4 – rigidity; 5 – introversion; 6 – sensitivity;
7 – anxiety; 8 – lability (emotion).

The author of the article has provided theoretical foundations and has studied internal structure of the adaptation process, has revealed the procedure and results of the study to verify the reliability and validity of the methodology, has obtained the average standard indicators for the general sampling, has defined new standardized test norms. The results of the study proved the diagnostic verification of the stated questionnaire and the possibility of its use for the purpose of psychological selection of the personnel of the National Police of Ukraine.
